Thermoplastic Infill

The vast majority of infill used in artificial turf (98%) is made from granulated rubber sourced from recycled car and truck tyres. These particulates are not ideal with suspected high levels of toxic chemicals that leach out of them into the soil and the air.

As an alternative to these granules is a new product called thermoplastic infill and it is an environmentally friendly option made from natural materials. It is also known as styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and is a stability and shock absorbent solution that has been developed for synthetic turf.

Positive features of synthetic grass using thermoplastic infill include reliable footing, good abrasiveness, a reasonable level of elasticity which is comparable to natural grass, it’s non-toxic and doesn’t smell of rubber. The downside is that synthetic grass made using thermoplastic infill can cost up to 14 times more than the artificial turf laid with recycled rubber.

As with many products that are still new on the market, there are still some unknowns about the product, such as how it is going to perform years down the track. The pricing issue should solve itself as the manufacture of the product is refined and cheapened, hopefully making this a much more affordable option.

How Acne Affects Women

Most young women and men will have at least a few pimples over the course of their lives. But acne seems to affect men and women in different ways. Young men are more likely to have a more serious form of acne. Acne in young women tends to be more random and linked to hormone changes, such as the menstrual cycle.

As women get older, acne often gets better. But some women have acne for many years. Some women even get acne for the first time at age 30 or 40.

For many women, acne can be an upsetting illness. Women may have feelings of depression, poor body image, or low self-esteem. But you don’t have to wait to outgrow acne or to let it run its course. Today, following the many available tips to clear acne almost every case can be resolved. Acne also can, sometimes, be prevented. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating skin problems) about how you can help prevent acne and if treatment would help you.

Performing Mold Detection

Your house may look clean and it may smell clean but there is an ever-present risk that there may be something unwelcome living under your roof with you and your family. It is not uncommon for mold to be growing somewhere in your house. Understanding what to look for will help you in your efforts at performing thorough mold detection throughout the whole house.

If you can see a darkish shadow on the ceiling or walls of your house it could mean that there is mold growing on those surfaces. The cottony speckles on furniture is another indicator that mold has begun to take hold, it may also indicate that there is some underlying water problem hiding behind the walls, under the floor or in the ceiling.

The suspected presence of mold is not an immediate cause for alarm because there is always a certain level of mold present in a home which can be considered acceptable and can be easily removed with a commercial mold cleaner. If however the mold is absolutely rampant in certain areas of the house then it may be time to call in the experts.

Performing your own mold detection first is a recommended course of action because air sampling is an expensive process and confirming that the mold exists is really all that you will achieve by going through such a process. No matter what type of mold you find in the house (and the type doesn’t really matter) they should all be treated the same in respect to health and cleanup approaches.

A Reason To Switch to Synthetic Grass

Our local soccer ground, where by boys play the majority of their soccer, has spent the summer recovering from the previous football season. The oval has 3 soccer pitches on it and the main pitch has been returfed in the off-season (not for the first time, mind you) and the club has been given special allowance from local water restrictions so that the ground may be watered each day to allow the newly laid truf to take.

The second field was a complete dustbowl by the end of last season, virtually unplayable by the time the semis and finals came around. In other words, for the most important games of the season, the ground was at its absolute worst. Not only that, games were lost or shifted to other grounds because of the state of the pitch. With a month or so until the new season begins the grass covering is only now starting to look suitable for soccer to be played on it.

Experience tells us that the surface of the ground will last until Easter. One whole month of reasonable playing conditions is about all we can expect. It’s around Easter that we get our week-long rain periods and with training and play continuing, not to mention inadequate drainage and poor subsoil quality, the tround rapidly deteriorates.

Sporting field synthetic grass has already been laid on another soccer field in the area and apart from the occasional comment about the heat that can be reflected off the artificial grass surface, the reports have been positive. One thing’s for sure, the ground conditions at the end of the season are jsut as ideal as they are at the start at this pitch covered with synthetic grass.

Most of us know that the cost of the synthetic grass, which seems inordinately high, pays for itself over the years, particularly if you have to otherwise resort to returfing season after season. Plus, watering costs are significantly reduced and far fewer games would be cancelled due to the state of the pitch.

Finally, our semi-finallists and grand-finallists would be able to play on the types of grass surfaces they deserve and that are suitable for these important games.

Decorating in the Retro Style with Lamps

The ever-turning circle of fashion has once again moved around to the retro style, even when it comes to floor lamps. The styles and fashions that we thought we’d seen the last of a decade ago are re-emerging as the latest thing in chic design and people are going mad for it. In fact, one of interior furnishings mainstays throughout the eras has been the humble lamp and while bench surfaces, chairs, lounges and most other room items have gone through drastic changes, many of the classic retro lamps that emerged in the 1950s and 60s are still preferred today.

The great thing about decorating in retro style is that almost anything goes, as long as it is fun, combines shapes and colors and looks unique. Floor lamps such as the Arco lamp that reaches from one side of the reading chair to the other still looks appropriate, as does the square lampshade on a wooden pedestal base. From there it’s up to your own discerning eye as to how funky you want to make the lamp shade with options of trimmings, tassels or prints to bring out your retro preference.

Retro Ceiling lamps are a great option to consider in decorating your home. They provide a touch of elegance and class to any décor you may have and they are suitable in practically every room of your house. On the ceiling, retro ceiling lamps add an array of colors on a usually drab and single colored surface.

Alternatively, you may be after a more striking piece to make an absolute statement in your room. Something bold and beautiful like a Tiffany table lamp with the kind of stained glass lamp shade that will be sure to be a talking point.

Retro lamps are definitely on the up again and they are making their presence felt in a growing number of homes around the country.

Satellite Navigators

The latest must-have accessory for the car is the satellite navigator, outstripping the 6-stack CD player and the tape deck that were the previous big selling points for cars. The satellite navigator, or sat nav to use the shorthand lexicon, has given directionally challenged drivers the best of all worlds with both a map to follow and the option of spoken instructions on how to navigate from point to point.

Satellite Navigation Systems or GPS systems work by retrieving your exact location and traffic information from orbiting satellites and feeding the data to an in-built LCD screen. Your lcoation is then calculated and displayed on a map allowing you to track your movements in relation to your destination.

Keying in the starting and ending point before you begin your trip should solve any problems you might have if you’re unsure of the way. Because most sat nav devices can be switched to audio with spoken instructions to assist you, you don’t have to worry about taking your eyes off the road.

As the sat nav industry matures the price of buying a sat nav is coming down so that it’s no big deal to get yourself a nice model. With fierce competition there’s a great range of sat nav and other sat nav accessories available at reasonable prices.

Saving yourself the cost of blundering around taking wrong turns and fuming with frustration, getting yourself a sat nav device could turn out to be a great money saving device as well as a handy navigator.

Angled Brad Guns – Getting A New One

It’s amazing the number of useful tools that are available out there that perhaps only the professionals know about, but would be very handy for the home handyman. One of those is an angled brad gun, also referred to as either an angled brad nailer or an angled bradder.

A brad gun is a type of nail gun, but shoots thinner nails known as brads. This type of nail gun is most suitable for the more delicate types of fastening jobs around the home. Perfect for putting in the beading work I have to do on the interior doors in our house, but equally appropriate for cabinetry or doing close work around glass.

The choice I had to make, though was whether to buy a normal, standard type of brad gun which would do the job for nailing regular brads in normal, easy to get to spots, or whether to buy an angled bradder which I could use to reach angled corners and other cornice type of mouldings.

What it would mean would be that I would just have to be careful to nail the brads in straight when doing the standard nailing. So that’s what I bought, a nice little Paslode angled brad nail gun that works a treat. As it turned out, there were some tight angles that I maybe could have worked around with a standard brad gun, but the angled bradder made the task a complete no brainer.
